Signs of Problem Behavior(s)

Do you need behavior counseling for your dog? Here is a list of behaviors that have the potential to morph into a problem before they become serious. The behaviors may indicate a need for intervention by a behavior counselor, a trainer (for one or two of the behaviors) or veterinarian. Be aware, though, that many of these behaviors are exhibited at certain times by most dogs. They become a problem when they are exhibited often, at inappropriate times, or in combination with other inappropriate or aggressive behaviors.

• chasing people or other dogs
• chewing or destroying things
• escaping
• grabbing things
• growling
• guarding food or toys
• herding people or other animals
• inching closer when commanded to stay

• pawing
• playing keep away
• playing tug-ot-war with leash
