Training is the process by which an animal
learns to respond to basic commands. When looking for a trainer,
watch her/him work. Ask yourself, if I were the animal being
trained, would I want this done to me? If not, look elsewhere.
Behavior modification is the process by which
an animal's behavior is modified or eliminated. One should ask the
same question of a behavior counselor as one asks of a trainer; however,
one must also determine whether or not the behavior counselor knows and
uses various humane learning theory techniques to modify or eliminate a
behavior.
At that point, one should check references. Here are
